Senior Capstone -  Each student will identify, research, prepare and present a final capstone project that displays in a compelling way key personal skills and career interests that reflect and incorporate your SCAD experience.

Marketing

Ethical Advertising Evaluation and Revamp Assignment - Concept: Students will select a brand and assess the brand's advertising from an authentic and ethical point of view - all platforms (print and digital). Students will then mock up how they would revamp the brand's advertising to enhance communication of the brand story

Visual Merchandising

Window Display Project - Dover Street Market -  Students working alone will create a 3D mock-up of one window display for their chosen brand/store. As part of developing this mock-up, students will research the selected brand/store, materials needed to create the window and visual/inspirational research. Your window theme can be seasonal (Fall, Spring, Holiday), promotional (new product, sale) or campaign-driven.

Creating a Flagship Store - Dover Street Market -  Students will work to create a Flagship store for a fictitious company. Students will communicate four major messages through visual presentations to create an exciting shopping environment for their target customers. Groups will employ visual communication techniques discussed during the quarter to deliver their messages with clarity and impact.

Branding / Product Development / Brand Extensions

Mock Chanel Fashion Advertisement - Concept: “Fashion Isn’t what we do, it’s who we are too”. Create a campaign based on a designer brand of your choice, conduct a photoshoot with your inspiration, and design branding mockups to follow.

Pop-Up Shop - Ted Baker London -  Students will work in teams to develop a comprehensive plan for creating a pop-up shop for a retailer (approved by the professor). The project will be developed through a series of class reviews with a final presentation

Final Sourcing Strategy - Boleyn -  Compare and contrast the risks and benefits of various global opportunities and enable students to understand the importance of international business and cultural relationships in today’s fashion apparel and textile industry. Synthesized research into a well-planned product sourcing guide. This project is the final successor to the new product/company project listed below.

New Product/Company Presentation - Boleyn - Create a new company and product collection. Develop a mission statement consistent with your company’s vision and appropriate for your target market. Next, develop your company presentation that includes vital information about your company, its product line, target market, and mission statement. The new company and the five essential products will be the platform for developing sourcing guidelines and a final sourcing strategy. This project is the basis/precursor for the Final Sourcing Strategy project listed above.

Upcycled Consumer Product - J.W. Anderson - Concept: Students will collaborate to design and make a consumer product incorporating course learnings. The consumer product will be made solely from found objects/materials based on a selected brand. In addition to the consumer product, students will create all marketing collaterals to introduce the new sustainable line. The budget for construction materials is limited to $25.00.

Tactility Through Clothing - a Digital Lookbook - Individually create a digital lookbook for an existing company (in this case, a fashion design student's collection). Students will also create a project proposal with research, shot list, prop list, budget, etc.

Carter’s Brand Extension - Concept: Students will examine principles of design, merchandising and manufacturing. Students will examine the process of planning and developing a line. Students will understand various factors affecting the product development process. Students will learn how to develop products from concept to distribution.

Project Off Runway - Finesse Studios USA - Concept: Each student will conceive, develop and pitch an innovative digital activation to replace a physical runway show for a selected brand. Proposals must demonstrate how the activation will reach the target audience and deliver greater brand engagement and better ROI than a traditional show. Proposals will be judged on the concept's originality, the presentation's strength, the research's depth, and the data's underlying use.

Future Store Experience Project - Patagonia - Concept: Create a new space that is more than simply a retail destination and innovatively connects consumers and the community. The space should complement and expand the brand’s existing digital strategy and must measurably increase brand awareness and sales across the brand’s ecosystem.

Print Collection Brand Extension - Concept: Create a print collection of final flats that add a sense of sport to a new capsule of clothing designs. -Design a Private Label collection capsule group of 6-8 pieces using print design, a color palette, mood board, color inspiration and research about the company and a consumer profile.

Case Studies / Research

Consumer-Centric Evaluation - Nordstrom - Concept: Each individual will select a local consumer-centric brand(retail or wholesale/retail) and observe and analyze how they execute on all customer touch points in all channels (Online, offline, mobile app, and social media).

Legacy Retailer Reinvention: Burberry - Concept: Students will work in groups to select a legacy retailer (founded before 2010) and devise two strategies to grow/revitalize their business. This will include a clear picture of who the brand's target customer is, the retailer’s state of business, and the rationale of why you believe these would be the most effective strategies

Contemporary Issues in Fashion: Case Study 1: Ganni - Concept: Students will work in teams of 2 to research, analyze and present how a specific fashion brand addresses Corporate Social Responsibility and how the brand could improve in this area.

Contemporary Issues in Fashion: Case Study 2: Uniqlo - Concept: Students will work in teams of 2 to research, analyze and present how a specific fashion brand is addressing manufacturing and human rights and how the brand could improve in this area.

Case Study #1 Retail Roadmap for China: Ralph Lauren - Concept: Students will work in teams of four to research and present two case studies demonstrating a thorough understanding of retail innovation in China. The broad topic will be further understood through course lecture materials and readings.

Case Study #2: Lessons from China for the U.S. Market: Lululemon - Concept: Students will work in teams of four to research and present two case studies that demonstrate a thorough understanding of retail innovation in China.

Mock 6-Month Buying Plan - Concept: Students analyze the buying function and the differences in buyers’ responsibilities in various types of merchandising organizations to study the principles, procedures, and techniques practiced by merchandisers of fashion goods in determining what assortments to buy and which resources to select.

Trends

Gucci Trend Forecasting Project -  Review and present research on your chosen brand (Gucci), present two trends forecasted for 2025, create and present a trend forecasting video for two chosen trends, and prepare and present social media trend mockups and conclusions.

Visual Merchandising Trend Journal -  Each student will prepare and maintain an ongoing visual merchandising trend journal (a single document) with dated entries as called for in the syllabus. A total of eight entries are called for to complete the journal. Each entry will describe a significant trend or event in the fashion world, the trends that will affect the retail industry, and its relevance to the class.

Trend Forecasting Fashion Show Presentation - Laquan Smith - Concept: Prepare a fashion show presentation with the latest trends in the fashion industry.
